Generative art for Jonas Claesson: the next wave of creativity
For those who don’t know Jonas, he’s an artist known for his colourful, hand-drawn art where moose, polar bears, seals and other animals cohabitate in a wonderful, magical world. For those who do know Jonas, they know he’s been creating art — both traditionally and digitally — for the better part of two decades.
For Jonas, generative, digital art is the next exciting medium to explore because it has the potential to usher in the next great wave of artistic creativity.
Creating visual art is one of the defining characteristics of the human species. And traditionally, art has always been seen as a tangible thing created by a human being. Jonas will never stop painting and illustrating breathtaking artworks that bring together the magic of the ocean and the wonder of animals.
But art is powerful — and unique — in its capacity to connect us with a deeper understanding of ourselves, our inner well-being and each other. And Jonas has always believed that surfing is the same — a very intimate experience with nature and oneself. It’s in that moment, in the water where you can truly appreciate the sounds of the ocean and the sight of its endless beauty. His paintings and illustrations — from Dolphin Visits to Fun Lefts to One Lovely Evening — have always reflected that.
His new generative digital art project, Safari Surfers, will allow him to explore completely new experiences with his art, bringing an even deeper connection with surfing, the art and ourselves.
Generative digital art creates endless potential
Generative art is a medium in which a computer aids the artist in creating thousands of original pieces. Jonas’ Safari Surfers collection is animated and set to music. But what’s even more exciting is that we developed an algorithm we call the NeverEndgine that will create never ending, never repetitive, experiential pieces of art.
And the NeverEndgine will allow for the art to be upgradable and adaptable, meaning any of the variables within each piece of art can be changed at any time to surprise and delight their owners. You can read more about this exciting technology here.
So now, everyone can own a unique piece of art by Jonas
Today, you can buy an amazing, original piece of art by Jonas for which you are the only owner.
Or, you can buy a print. And they are also amazing. Which is why so many people around the globe own Jonas’ prints.
But now, with digital generative art, everyone can now own a unique piece of art by Jonas.
Here’s how it works.
The first collection within the Safari Surfers series, Surf Buddies, consists of 12 unique characters.
Each character will have unique backgrounds, surfboards, clothing, headgear and accessories.
Every character also has companion animals that are hand drawn by Jonas.
For each character, the technology will play a series of these animations within each piece of art at random times and at random intervals so the owner will never know what’s coming next.
Additionally, original music compositions have been created for each character. The NeverEndgine randomly generates music stems that create unique soundtracks for each NFT.
The generative technology randomly assigns combinations of backgrounds, traits, animations and music in a way that ensures no two Safari Surfers artworks are exactly the same. And some will have traits that are more rare than others.
The result: art you love on your device and on your wall!
